Action Steps(s):
Person(s) Responsible:
Timeline: Start/End
Needed Resources
Evaluation

Identify a group of at risk students from the middle school that I will monitor throughout the school year.  (a sub population of approximately 15-25 that will include: Hispanic, Asian, African American, & Whites)

Deandria Brigham (site supervisor) and Middle School Counselor
August 2012 - May 2013
Students being monitored previous year academic performance (A.E.I.S report for middle school) & discipline referrals
Identify subgroup by giving demographic information to compare with current results to determine if monitored students improved, stayed the same, or declined.
Were the monitored students discipline referrals referral’s reduced and by what amount/percentage?

Reginald Ervin (me): site supervisor will pull the data from our referral system
August 2012 - May 2013
Skyward discipline referral data keeping source
Indentify whether there was any change in referral’s; increase/decrease or no change

Were the social issues of the monitored students minimized versus the freshman students that were not monitored?

  1. Your topic is good, however, I am a little confused by the term "monitor". Could you clarify if you are just collecting data from one grade to the next, or are you interacting with a particular group of students? (i.e. mentoring, tutoring, studying, etc)

    1. What I mean by monitoring is that I will have a control group and the students that are not, which will be the (20-30) students that will be chosen as the "experimental" group. This group I will be looking at these students to be mentored by upper-classmen, tutoring, studying and socially.

  2. Transitioning is an important piece at the middle school and high school. I have experience in setting up both. Specifically, I feel that transitioning into high school is much more difficult for students, and I know that freshman year is crucial for students to master so that they may continue to experience success. Good topic, and good luck!
